Weaving a Body Between is an experimental documentary portrait series that situates Nico Vela Page, a Latinx trans woman whose body is changing through an encounter with estrogen, within landscapes of changing seasons, in a changing climate. Drawing parallels between the human body’s incredible ability to transform and rivers swelling after rains, or trees growing and losing their leaves, or valleys being carved by glaciers, this project is an exploration of more-than-human corporalities and timelines that doesn’t remove humanity from the picture, either.
These photographs are part of an ongoing collaboration between Nico and Ana, queerplatonic life partners whose entwined creative relationship subverts the roles of creator and subject so that both are active participants in the making of each image.
