PROJECTS
Combining the real with the imagined– fictionalized ephemera, restaged scenes of sapphic intimacy, and documentary images of the last porn theater in the city– The Aphrodite envisions an alternate history of queer public contact.
This project asks: what could these spaces of refuge have looked like had they been owned and patronized by queer women and trans folks of all classes? What happens to all of us when public and renegade spaces (outside of law and market values) are lost to gentrification and redevelopment? And what can the practice of ritual reimagining offer the struggle for more liberated and inclusive futures?
